A whole new kind of Princess

Once upon a time....

Okay, you can stop right there! Anything that starts off with that over used cliche of a phrase, deserves a certain slow and painful death into oblivion.

It was actually two student's project  that made me think of the following gibberish. (I know, students are useful for more than making you feel incredibly smart, or having a head to bang against a wall...)

Said creatures presented a project about female evolution, feminism and all that other cool stuff that makes women feel empowered and a little less like shit.

As any bored out of their mind soul, who has read any portion of this blog knows; I have an ongoing fight with Disney, and have ranted often about the non-existence of "Prince Charming" and blah blah blah... I have never stopped once to acknowledge the other side (maybe except to call them less than bright for believing in said "Prince.) Surpassing all the not so bright Princesses that still believe in Prince Charming, are a whole new kind of Princess (har har, there it is: the name of the post in the actual post itself! Peter Griffin would be proud of me!)

Who are they?

They're the women who work for a living, all the while juggling a husband, 3 kids and a crazy mother in law.
They're the women who study, work hard, and still manage to look fucking gorgeous while doing it.
They're the women who in spite of having being back stabbed by a friend, will still be there when they need a shoulder to cry on.
They're the young ladies growing up with a personality, and learning that it's ok to have a brain.
They're the ones who love, even when their "Prince" deserves everything but that.
The ones that never give up.
They're the independent women (ok I'll stop, I'm starting to sound like Beyoncé!)

They're all that and then some.

Look around, they could be your best friend, your sister, a random stranger, your mother, and yes even you!

We've come a long way girls, and it doesn't matter if we never find our "Prince". There's always the Lumberjack, the Knight, the totally hot random stranger....

and just in case you're wondering: I have a hyper-active brain and a morbid case of insomnia, you add that up....and you've got the nonsensical rambling above.

The Moron

The Moron that refuses to see the "bad" in people.
The Moron that believes there is always redemption.
The Moron that will forgive everything.
The Moron that will always get a broken heart.
The Moron that loves too much.
The Moron that will protect others above their own well-being.
The Moron that will never leave a friend.
The Moron that gets left behind.
The Moron that will never learn.

Yes, I am that kind of moron.

How many times will it have to happen to me, before I actually learn?

Have a nice day...

"Fuck, fuck, fuck, FUCK!" were the only sensible words that came out of his mouth while he jumped around his room trying to put on an old pair of jeans. "Fucking hell!" he had successfully pulled on the pants, and was now rummaging through a pile of t-shirts that were sprawled all over his couch.

He finally managed to pull a black one out of the pile, only to then realize it had: “I see dumb people” written on it; not the best thing to wear for a job interview right?! He continued on his quest, and finally pulled out one with a huge smiley on it that read: “Have a nice day!”

He absolutely hated that t-shirt; it used to be his ex girlfriends: “That bitch!” he thought with a smile about the only girl who ever broke his heart.

After reminiscing for a few seconds on the hotness of the heartbreaker, he stopped to look at the Garfield clock on his night stand; it read: 9:30am.
“FUCK!! I was supposed to be there at EIGHT!” throwing on a black overcoat and forgetting completely to brush his hair; he dashed out the door and into the oddest day of his life.

Rushing along the crowed street, he tried not to think too much about the fact that he was late, late for the opportunity he’d been waiting for all his life, late; because he had idiotic friends who convinced him to spend most of last night drinking instead of having an early night. “FUCK!” He shook his head, and all of a sudden remembered the hangover headache he had as soon as he opened his eyes this morning. “Fuck!”

He was moving very fast, propelled by his own lateness. He wasn’t a small man, so basically everyone stepped out of his way, so he never really worried about bumping into someone.

That’s when it happened.

He didn’t bump into someone; he crashed head-on into “it”. He wasn’t used to bumping, much less crashing into anything; so he just stood there like an idiot. The thing just kept on walking, as if “it” had never missed a step. He looked back, only to see the figure of what might have been a woman. The only thing that made “it”, since he wasn’t sure of what “it” was; stand out in the crowd, was that “it” was wearing a red hooded overcoat.

He blinked, and “it” was gone.

Moondance

Darkness stalked her, while the forest sang its eerie song.
Yet she could hear nothing but the beating of her heart.
She felt the fear like a bad taste on her tongue,
 the terror freeze her legs.
She couldn't remember why she was running,
all she could tell was that her terrified soul was screaming in pain.

Dark, so dark.

She stumbled and fell; as she went down, the earth rose up to swallow her.
A silent scream rose from her throat, and loud tears fell from her eyes.
She closed her eyes and like a lamb to the slaughterer; waited for the end.

Time wasn't merciful, it dragged it's feet;
every second felt like a torturous eternity.
She slowly opened her eyes, expecting to see the face of evil.
"I'll face it" she whispered "Look at death straight in the eye"

It wasn't death that stared back, on that moment when time stood still,
It was a beautiful silver light, that seemed to light up her world and frightened soul.
"Why so afraid my child?" the voice sounded like a thousand angels singing.
She suddenly felt so small, as the beautiful Silver Lady looked at her with kind eyes.

"Don't be afraid, I will not harm you" the Lady whispered as she held out her hand.
The girl gingerly took the Lady's hand, and let her lead the way.
"Come and dance with me, I will show you the wonders that await you"
Forgetting fear, she danced away with the moon.

Days later, two police officers had the ungrateful task of delivering the heartbreaking news to parents who never stopped hoping that their daughter would be found alive.
As tears fell, and an emptiness that could never be filled set in;
The mother looked at the moon, and saw a young girl dancing.
For some reason it made her smile through her tears.

In spite of the pain, as years went by, the Moondance always made her smile.

Wishful thinking

I wish there was a way I could heal you.
Make you smile through your pain, and remind you to breathe.
I wish there was a way I could protect you.
Keep you from falling, keep you from hurting.
I wish there was a way I could save you.
Save you from the evil of the world, save you from yourself.
I wish there was a way I could love you.
Without reservation, and innocently.

I can't.

I'm just me.

NVTJ

Nobody managed to make me angrier,
give me as many headaches,
make me loose my cool so easily.
Nobody annoyed me as much,
made me feel homicidal so many times in a day,
bugged me to the point of tears.
Nobody told me off me so much,
argued to the point of exhaustion,
and hurt me as much.
Nobody broke my heart so many times,
made me cry way too often,
and drove me crazy like you did.

but then again....

Nobody managed to make me smile as much
Laugh till it hurts as often
and feel so protected.
Nobody put up with me like you did
dried my tears as often
and hugged the sad out of me so many times.
Nobody taught me as much
healed me too many times
or was a friend like you.
Nobody forgave me as much
understood me even when I didn't
Loved me like you did.
Nobody made me as afraid of loosing a friend
made me believe in myself so many times,
believed in me like you did.
Nobody made me watch cartoons as often
discover new music and try new things
nobody made such a difference in my life like you did.

Thanks for being you.

Cradlesong

Lay your head on my shoulder,
I don't mind the tears on my t-shirt
If you smile, let it be true
cause I'd rather a frown than a fake smile.
Tell me all your secrets,
or say nothing at all.
It doesn't matter
cause actions speak louder anyway.

You may think you hide it well
that nobody sees the unspoken dreams
the hidden tears.
That your gorgeous smile
hides the storms you have within.

What if I told you,
that I see right through you?

It's ok, you don't have to be afraid,
I'll move mountains not to hurt you.
Let your soul fly to where it belongs
I'll protect your way.
Rest, baby, rest
The world can't hurt you here.

Just let me sing you to sleep,
chase your monsters away
Calm the storms
and kiss your tears away.

Elusive Sleep

I can't sleep.
Gave up trying around 4 in the morning.
It's funny to be the only one awake.
You hear so many things you normally wouldn't pay attention to.
You can hear late lovers scurrying back home.
The lonely drunk man singing some stupid love song.
You pay attention to the sounds your house makes during the night.
The beating of your heart
Your breath
The sound of your loneliness
Raging thoughts that won't shut up.

Yeah, I couldn't sleep last night,
Morpheus was absent, and sleep went for a joyride
Far, far away from me.
I thought it would be a good time to catch up on my life;
That didn't work too well either.
Nothing but nonsense.

I gave up trying to think
I gave up trying to sleep
I think I gave up

Looking in the mirror...

What is it that makes people so terrified of finding themselves alone? Could it be the fear we all have of coming face to face with none other than the person who stares back at you in the mirror?
The fear of facing yourself grows into a gigantic monster, so hideous and disgusting; that you'd rather have an overload of things in your life that most of the time aren't even worth it, basically so you won't have to deal with the reflection you see.

Could it be because when you look in the mirror; you happen to see everything you don't want to see? You see the imperfections you so keenly believe you have. You see the person you wanted to be, but fail miserably at being. All your flaws and mistakes flaunt their ugliness, while your lost hopes and dreams scream as they slowly die and fade into the distance. Your image slowly distorts itself until all you see is how ugly, dumb, fat and disgusting you are.

So you close your eyes in desperation, hoping the monster you just looked at disappears. You plaster a fake smile on your face, and with dishonest hopes and dreams pretend you're brave enough to take on the world.
You go on to look for whatever it is you're missing, be it in good or bad company; drinks, or a night of mindless, loveless sex. When that doesn't work, you start surrounding yourself with people you hope can see in you what you wish you saw; the bright, witty, smart, funny, and beautiful. Allowing yourself to believe, even if for a moment; that you could be all that you strive for.

All the while you know that eventually you'll have to go back and deal with what you see when you look in the mirror.

Crash

Take my breath away
make me beg for mercy
pay no attention to my pleas
leave me wanting more.

Take my shame
bring me to my knees
let me lose myself
then find me there.

Take my fear
leave me confused
break my heart
heal it with a kiss.

Take my life
torture me
leave me for dead
bring me back to life.

Frogs and Prince Charming

"Asking nothing, leave me be. Taking everything in my stride. Don't need reason, don't need rhyme..."

As Bon Scott's voice screeched through my head phones, for some odd and remotely bizarre reason I thought of nothing more nothing less than Prince Charming and (gross) frogs.

Guess I've been running into a lot of frogs lately, so that might have been a good reason for the ocean of nonsense that followed. Well, Bon Scott was definitely a frog...

From the time we are wee little lassies, we are taught that someday, somehow, and outta of the freaking blue; Prince Charming will come along and rescue us from whatever chaos, mayhem or plain nasty situation we might find our poor little helpless selfs in. (Damn you Disney!) As good little girls our mommas raised us to be, we should wait for that Prince Charming, to then go on and live the rest of our very tedious lives by his side.

Awesome right?! Well, I think that eventually there was a serious shortage of Prince Charming to go around, since over half of the world's population happens to be female. So to soothe the aching hearts of poor little lonely Princesses, we were kindly and moronically introduced to: The Frog!

Basically, momma's all over the world were telling their bright eyed little angels that: "You know, sometimes Prince Charming can be hiding under the disguise of a frog!" Translation for the "read between the lines" challenged: " Look, not everybody can just have Prince Charming, but you know sometimes that beauty challenged bloke, can turn out to be the guy you're looking for, so don't close your mind, go and kiss a few frogs".  The frog community protested vehemently to being kissed, while the convention of  less than good looking guys praised whatever God they worshiped.

From then on, it was generation after generation that fell under the wicked spell of "Frog & Prince Charming" Girls spent most of their lives waiting for their Prince, and some died that way, while others kind of gave up and settled for the first frog that hopped on by. Some lucky few actually found their Prince Charming, or their Frog who turned out to be their Prince. Others on the other hand just spent the rest of their lives kissing frogs and eventually turned into one... what?! It CAN happen ok?!

Fine, I get it! Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder...oops, BEHOLDER! True that someone's Prince might just as well look like someone else's Frog, or vice a versa... it still doesn't change the fact that you are more likely to run into Frogs, just Frogs.

Now my questions:
1 -  Couldn't they have come up with something less disgusting as an analogy?
Seriously, FROGS??!!
2 - Why can't you just kiss? Why is it that this never ending and mostly frustrating search for Mr. Right or Prince Charming be a rule to live by? (Once again; Damn you Disney!)

Yes, I have kissed more than my fair share of Frogs, and had a few close calls with some Princes (dodged those like a pro), finally I came to the conclusion that you should just kiss, enjoy whatever you have or whoever you have for what they are. Quit trying to find your Prince, Frog or whatnot, and enjoy whatever life throws your way.

I know it's easier said than done, cause apart from frogs we might run into; dogs, cats, Bambi, snakes and a very varied assortment of creatures. I leave the endless hoping for all the Disney babies around the world.

As for me...

" Ain't nothing I would rather do. Going down, party time. My friends are gonna be there too..."

So.... What are we doing tonight??!

Trying to dominate the world...mwahahahaha ha ha ha.

Ahem!!

Temporary silliness kicked in momentarily...sorry bout' that...

Actually, I do plan to dominate the world; eventually...

But that's not the point.

You are sitting there, with your friends happily chatting on let's say some random Friday night, and the inevitable question pops up: "So, what are we doing tonight?"

Pause

The ideas that follow are a mixture of some insane ideas, wild fanatsies, rather logical thoughts and generally no answer at all.

Eventually everyone just ends up following the "most boring" idea that the first idiot that opened his mouth had:

Idiot: "I know!! Let's go out for some beers?!
All the rest: "BOOOOOO!!!! Why don't we go....

Followed the mixture of ideas and thoughts I spoke about a few lines up.

The funny thing is; there is always so much pressure on the whole "Friday Night" religion, that it truly annoys me. (Ok, I'm always the "idiot" who has the brilliant, yet unacknowledged idea of beer..)

The point is (yes, there is actually a point. Ok?!)
It doesn't really matter if it's Friday, Saturday, Monday (agh!) or Fuckday... what really matters is the company you're in.

I'll break it down for you since I know you have absolutely nothing better to do with your time. Proof?! YOU'RE READING THIS!!! Har har! Got ya!

Ahem, back.

There's always:

The pretty girl; you know, the one you adore, who happens to be a really nice person, cute personality, pretty smart, sweetest friend ever and has a kick ass body and knock-out looks... which makes you want to call her a bitch, but you can't because she's such an awesome friend.

The cute guy: You often ask yourself if your actually his friend, or you just like looking at him. He's also sweet, charming, funny, and a true gentleman... just keep telling yourself he's a bed hopper and you'll do just fine. Right?!

The funny guy: He'll make you laugh under any circumstance (called and specially uncalled for) he's the life of the party, and will yank laughter out of you when all you wanna do is scream.

The Dumb ass: yeah, we all have one of those. He's that idiot who always laughs last, plays the most ridiculous practical jokes, says the wrong things at the wrong times, has you wondering more than once: "Why the hell I'm I his friend?!", but also happens to be the one who gave you that much needed hug on a particularly bad day.

The geek: The walking Google, walking talking dictionary, seems to get along better with electronic devices than humans, comic book freak, movie aficionado  and you have to pry him with a crow bar from the computer. Would rather spend time reading or playing "Devil May Cry" instead of hanging with the rest of you humans. also the one who has the best advice when things are going really bad. (Any of you who snickered and thought about me, just know I'm almost perfecting my Darth Vader choking technique!!)

The musician: He will turn 3 out of every 4 phrases you say into a song, drum on anything (I mean...ANYTHING) talk about music in a way that will make you wish he was just as easy as an IPod, go Guitar Hero on you at the most unexpected times, but who will turn your bones to mush every time he belts out some corny love song.

The best friend: he or she is that one who gets you even when you don't.

The list goes on and on, but when it comes down to it, you couldn't live without any of them even if you tried really REALLY hard.

All you have to do is understand that time flies, people change, you can loose any of them in the blink of an eye, so next time "Friday Night" comes around; spend less time stressing over what you'll do, and realize you're doing the best you could be doing:

Hanging with your friends!

Wow, I' actually turning into quite a sweetheart!...proud of meeee!!!

Now....for that Darth Vader choking technique......
